In Japan, 940 million tons/year of plastic waste is generated, and containers, packaging, and containers account for 426 million tons/year. If this continues, it will account for more than 1.5% of the carbon budget needed to keep the average temperature rise within 10°C. The United Nations Environment Program is planning to establish an international treaty to control plastic pollution in 2024. We are trying to spread the concept of Reduce and Reuse in place of single-use plastics around the world.
Megloo is a reusable container recycling service that was born out of the desire to do something about the plastic waste generated by takeout. Special reusable containers are collected at member stores for takeout and returned to nearby member stores, thereby reducing environmental impact. Compared to using disposable containers, it not only reduces waste but also reduces CO2 emissions by over 90%. (Comparison between using reusable containers 100 times and using 100 disposable containers)
It's very easy to use; users use the LINE app to reserve takeout at a Megloo-compatible store, then present the LINE screen at the store to pick up the order. Once the used container is returned to a dedicated return box or a compatible store, it will be cleaned and used again at the store.
Megloo not only represents the idea of "a container going around," but also the idea of spreading the feelings of "thank you for the meal" and "thank you" around the community.
Nowadays, there is a growing movement worldwide to shift from recycling to reuse/reduce when it comes to plastics. Circulation reduces the energy required for reuse, which also leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions. Reuse systems in which the government and private sector work together are becoming widespread not only in Europe, such as Germany, the Netherlands, and France, but also in Asia, such as Korea and Taiwan. Representative Yoshizumi has visited the forefront of sustainability around the world, and is convinced that Japan is simply lagging behind in environmental awareness, but that its morals are at the world's highest level, and that it will soon become a circular economy advanced country. First of all, we want to lead the spread of reuse rather than disposable use in Japan.
Megloo started as a demonstration experiment in Kamakura City in October 2021, and has expanded to include Shibuya Ward, Nakano Ward, Meguro Ward, Kuramae, Taito Ward, Fukuroi City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Hokkaido. Recently, the usage scene has expanded to include professional sports league events such as F10, rugby and basketball, music events, marches, and catering.
Now that "disposable" is the norm, what can we do to make "reuse" the norm? It is very difficult to change people's common sense. We will consider and implement measures to make Megloo easier to use and have it used in more areas, more stores, and more people. First, we will conduct research activities such as observing the sites where Megloo is actually used, collecting opinions from store staff regarding operations and time, and interviewing take-out customers about their awareness and ease of use. Based on the raw information obtained, we organize issues, consider measures, prioritize them, and implement them.
In marketing, what is needed to make it more popular, from the perspectives of ``What category of stores are likely to use it?'' ``What is the appropriate price?'' ``What kind of system would make it easier to use?'' We will formulate a hypothesis and translate it into concrete actions.

Representative Director Shingo Yoshizumi
The impetus for founding Kaman was when my eldest son handed me trash on the street while I was walking on a holiday, saying, "Dad, yes, trash!" My eldest son had learned to pick up trash at nursery school, but I started thinking that I wanted to leave behind a sustainable and beautiful society for my children, so I started a company in 2020. For about 20 years since I entered the workforce, I have been launching new businesses by adding a people's perspective to the profit-centered era. The next 20 years will be an era in which we attract customers with services that incorporate a planetary perspective and build sustainable business models.
We are looking for applications from people who want to experience the zero-to-one work environment of a startup, and if possible, those who are interested in the circular economy.
