The third workshop for students thinking about Yokohama City, "What is the future of 'Smart City Yokohama?'" was held!

Each workshop aims to deepen understanding of smart city trends both in Japan and overseas, put them into practice, and explore the smart city Yokohama should aim to become.
This time we will report on the third event, which was held on November 11th.

This time, we visited NTT East's e-city Labo in Chofu, Tokyo.
e-city Labo is located on the grounds of the NTT East Central Training Center and is a facility where you can experience the solutions that the NTT East Group is working on to solve local issues.
Primary industry x ICT, manufacturing, logistics, retail services x ICT, energy, tourism, transportation, disaster prevention and mitigation, etc.
You will be able to see, touch, and feel the cutting-edge solutions that NTT East is working on in a variety of fields, taking advantage of its strength in communications.

First, a representative from NTT East gave an introduction to the company, its initiatives, and an overview of e-city Labo.

The tour then begins with guidance from an NTT East representative.

They also demonstrated a drone flight that can recognize and avoid obstacles using its onboard camera, without relying on GPS.

NTT East will install a micro-biogas plant to generate energy and fertilizer from leftover food from its employee cafeteria and waste from its own farms.
We are conducting a demonstration of an urban circulation ecosystem.

The second half of the session will be a discussion among the students.
Utilizing the NTT East technology learned during this tour, we will work on initiatives that will lead to smart cities from the perspectives of "for what purpose/for whom/who and how."
Students thought, discussed, and presented.

As this was the students' third workshop, they are gradually becoming able to make more specific proposals.

The next workshop will be held on November 11th.
We will be reporting on the workshop in the future, so stay tuned!
